Materials

  • 1/2 cup Shea Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Candelilla Wax
  • 4 Tbsp Argan Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Jojoba Oil
  • 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (optional)
  • 10 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil (optional)

Tools

  • Cosmetic Jars
  • Digital Scale
  • Measuring Cups
  • Small Saucepan
  • Heatproof Mixing Bowl or Jug
  • Hand Held Blender

Instructions

  • Using a double boiler or a heat-proof glass bowl over a pan filled with about an inch of boiling water, melt the shea butter and candelilla wax.
  • Once all solids have become liquid, remove from heat and allow to cool for about 2 minutes.
  • Whipping is necessary to combine the oils, and I like to use a handheld immersion blender with a balloon whisk for this task.
  • Add the argan oil, jojoba oil, and the essential oils, and stir to combine.
  • Let the mixture cool for 10-15 minutes. You can put the hand cream in the fridge, just so the oils can start to solidify.
  • After 10 minutes, add the essential oils and continue to whip the mixture at the highest speed for 10 minutes. The hand cream should look white and fluffy and feel soft and creamy.
  • Pour into jars and allow to become solid. It takes only a few minutes or you can put it into the refrigerator.
