Why Make Natural Body Wash?

If you’re a natural beauty lover like me, you probably know that most body wash you will find at the store is not 100% healthy. Most of these products aren’t made with ingredients you want to rub all over your body.

Just as you can absorb vitamins and minerals through the skin, you can also absorb chemicals. It can take as little as 26 seconds to absorb something from the skin and enter the bloodstream.

I’ve always tended to be extra cautious with what I put on my skin. Some of the products we’re using to keep our bodies clean can cause our bodies more harm than good. But many of us don’t pay attention to the ingredients of our favorite body washes. There’re many dangerous endocrine disruptors or even other types of chemicals that may put your long-term health at risk.

You won’t believe how easy it is to make this peppermint body wash recipe. This recipe has only 5 ingredients that will cost you pennies.

What ingredients are best for a natural body wash?

African Black Soap

The liquid African black soap is a beautiful creamy natural liquid soap that looks and feels like melted chocolate! Its rich, creamy texture makes it ideal for conditioning people with dry, eczema-prone skin. The great thing about black soap is its high content of shea butter, which discourages dryness. Suitable as a hand and body soap. It is also an excellent conditioning shampoo on dry, fly-away, or afro hair types.

Carrier Oil

Adding in a carrier oil will add moisturizing properties to the soap and more benefits to the skin, depending on which one you pick. As you can see from the photo above, this homemade body wash with essential oils is made with coconut oil. It’s one of my favorite oils because it has so many benefits for the skin. But you can also add jojoba oil because it absorbs really well into the skin.

Honey

Honey is known to have many benefits for maintaining healthy skin. Honey is an antibacterial product – meaning that it fights bacteria. So, adding honey to your natural body wash recipe will moisturize your skin and kill bacteria that can cause acne or body odour.

Vegetable Glycerine

Glycerine is a vegetable-based, odourless, clear liquid.  It will add thickness to the body wash and help it to lather more. Glycerine will help hold moisture in your skin after you wash the natural oils away from your body.

Essential Oils

Adding essential oils to your natural body wash recipe can benefit your skin and add a beautiful scent. I’m using peppermint essential oil for this DIY body wash recipe because I love a mint body wash’s refreshing and cooling feeling.

Peppermint has many benefits for your overall health. Here are my favourite three ways to use peppermint in your daily routine.

But if you have dry skin, you may add essential oils like lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood.

On the other hand, try sage, rosemary, geranium, and several other types of essential oils for oily skin.

Can you put peppermint oil in your body wash?

Peppermint essential oil is the perfect addition to your natural body wash recipe. Peppermint oil acts as an excellent cleansing agent with powerful astringent properties that helps to balance your skin‚ pH levels and control excess oils in your skin. Peppermint oil also has a cooling effect, which can do wonders for irritated or inflamed skin. Just make sure that you don’t overdo it.
