Materials for DIY Peppermint Body Butter

For homemade body butter with peppermint essential oil, you need the following materials:

beeswax– White beeswax is a humectant meaning it binds moisture to the skin and creates as a protective barrier from environmental influences. If you want vegan body butter, use jojoba wax instead.

jojoba wax

Jojoba wax contains Myristic acid, which acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. It’s good for oily, dry, and mixed skin types. The wax has moisture control and photoprotection properties on the external surfaces of skin and hair.

shea butter

Shea butter is the perfect ingredient for softening skin. It works as an emollient that softens and hydrates skin.

jojoba oil

Jojoba oil is your skin’s best friend. This oil hydrates and nourishes the vitamins and minerals your skin craves.

peppermint essential oil

One of the most common smells during the holiday season is peppermint. It smells just like a candy cane but can also have a variety of health benefits as well.

vitamin E oil

Vitamin E is a wonderful skin moisturizer and a powerful antioxidant that can help to fight free radical damage on your skin.

Beetroot powder (optional)

I used beetroot powder to colour the candy cane body butter naturally. Alternatively, use mica powder or food coloring or leave the homemade bath products uncoloured.

How to make peppermint body butter with shea butter and essential oils

How do you make peppermint body butter? Here’s how to make DIY peppermint body butter from scratch:

Melt the wax. First, melt the wax in a heat-proof jug or low heat in a warm water bath. Make sure the wax doesn’t come in contact with the water.

Melt shea butter. Next, add shea butter. Warm and stir until the butter has melted. Tak of the heat.

Add jojoba oil and essential oils. Add jojoba oil and peppermint essential oil, and vitamin E oil. Stir well.

Chill the mixture. Put the mixture in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove from the fridge and add the beetroot powder(optional).

Whip the body butter. Use a hand mixer to beat the ingredients until whipped (2-3 minutes). At this point, you have DIY peppermint body butter.

When you whip it rather than leave it in a more solid state, it’s much easier to apply and absorb into the skin.

It’s lighter, and I find it helps keep skin from feeling greasy after application.
