DIY Brown sugar honey scrub

Ever since I published my anti-cellulite coffee scrub a couple of years back, I dreamed about a honey version. Today, I feel so excited to show you how to make this brown sugar honey scrub recipe with cinnamon and cayenne pepper to get rid of cellulite naturally.

I’ve used brown sugar in several skincare recipes before, such as bath bombs and body scrubs for glowing skin. Brown sugar is just so gorgeous for the skin and provides intense exfoliation and a healthy glow. Coconut oil further smooths the skin and boosts skin elasticity.

Brown sugar and honey scrub benefits

Honey can be used to treat puffy eyes, eczema, and acne. Sugar is a soothing ingredient in any body scrub. Sugar’s gritty texture works as an exfoliant to gently buff away dead skin and give your face a healthy glow.

While you can use any kind of honey you like, the raw stuff has nutrients and antioxidants that nourish skin and encourage healing.

Benefits of honey for the skin

Honey is an effective ingredient for homemade skincare preparations. Packaged with peptides, antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids, honey is a powerhouse of nutrients. Let’s discover what honey can do for your skin:

Soothing: Honey soothes redness and irritation and helps alleviate chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Hydrating: As a natural humectant, honey draws moisture into the skin keeping your skin hydrated and supple.

Anti-Acne: Honey also possesses antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that calm acne and blemishes.

Brightening: Honey contains an enzyme called glucose oxidase, which converts to hydrogen peroxide on the skin. Hydrogen peroxide has a mild skin-brightening effect.

Any oil that stays liquid at room temperature will work. A study assessing the use of coconut and olive oil on skin showed good penetration of the surface skin and measured over 6 hours of moisturizing ability. I love jojoba, grapeseed, argan, and rosehip oils because they repair the skin barrier and have regenerative properties.

Homemade honey and sugar scrub

I’ve been using DIY body scrubs as a body exfoliator and face scrub for years, and I LOVE it.

Recently, I made this brown sugar honey scrub and my skin feels great. It tastes like cookie dough if you make it a certain way. Every time I use this on my face I dip my finger in it and eat a glob. You can use this homemade sugar scrub with honey on your face hands, feet, body – anywhere really.

This recipe is a classic! A little honey combined with sugar and coconut oil is all you need to moisturize and slough off dead skin.

Just grab yourself a small bowl, a spoon, and any ingredients you’ve got hanging out in your pantry like skin-soothing oils, and moisturizing honey.

Once combined, store your brown sugar honey scrub in a container and enjoy it for up to a week.

Here’s our foolproof sugar and honey body scrub recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 200 g brown sugar
  • 70 g coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp raw honey

Step 1: Add 4 teaspoon honey

(you can also use manuka honey, maple syrup, or molasses)

Step 2: Add 200 g brown sugar

Step 3: Add 70 g coconut oil

(you can use almond oil, olive oil, jojoba oil)

Step 4: Optional extra add-ins

Add a dash of cinnamon or cayenne if you want to target cellulite. Start with a tiny, tiny amount because it’s easy to overdo it and wind up with irritated skin, which sort of defeats the purpose. And, DON’T use the DIY scrub on your face!!!
