Why It’s Time to Make Your Own DIY Anti-Aging Face Serum

I’m not here to convince you that making your own skincare products is the best choice in your life. I just want to share with you my personal reasons for going all-natural.

The first reason why I started making my own creams and potions was to avoid harmful substances. One of my favorites is this homemade face moisturizer.

I had converted to natural products to reduce my toxin levels, optimize liver function, and reduce excess chemicals that mimic hormones and so I blamed it on the changes in skincare.

Have you looked at the label of some of your skincare products? Your skin is the biggest organ in your body and readily absorbs all of those strange ingredients right into your bloodstream.

I love that instead of blowing my money on expensive night creams full of chemicals, fragrances, and things I can’t even pronounce, I can make my own serum customized for my own skin type.

I’ve been testing this homemade anti-aging serum for 2 months now and absolutely love what it’s doing. My skin feels hydrated and soft, the fine lines on my forehead have faded a little, and I didn’t break out once. I hope you will enjoy the serum just as much!

What is the Best Natural Anti-Aging Serum

Why serum?

Why not a cream or lotion?

Personally, I love face serums. They penetrate your skin faster and more effectively. Face serums are perfect for specific problems like age spots, sun damage, and fine lines.

Making your own anti-aging serum recipes at home is a fairly simple and straightforward process and will save you time and money!

What you will love about this DIY anti-aging face serum is that the recipe is easily customizable. This all-natural anti-aging serum recipe uses ingredients that are already shelf-stable.

Choosing the right ingredients and carrier oils can create the best anti-aging serum at home that absorbs quickly and moisturizes your skin.

Now that I am in my 30’s, I am looking for products that say “anti-aging.” I came up with this homemade anti-aging serum using essential oils and all-natural ingredients, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Essential Oil DIY Anti-Aging Serum Recipe

Adding essential oils to your face serum will benefit your skin. There are several essential oils that can help with anti-aging, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and promote healthy skin.

Dry skin? Try lavender, myrrh, or frankincense.

Need to be energized and refreshed? Try lavender, lemon, and grapefruit.

For anti-aging, try frankincense, patchouli, and rosehip oil.

Troubled skin like psoriasis or eczema? Try helichrysum, frankincense, lavender, sandalwood, chamomile, rose, or jasmine.

For normal skin, try helichrysum, sandalwood, or lavender essential oil.

Oily skin? Try lemon, rose, or roman chamomile essential oil.

For essential oils, use whatever you like, with the suggestions above being good for different issues. For this recipe, I’m using frankincense, rosehip, and patchouli.

how to make face serum for aging skin

How to Make Your Own Anti-Aging Serum

You can make your own anti-aging serum by following these simple steps. Depending on your skin type will determine which carrier oils and essential oils you will want to add, but the base of the recipe will stay the same.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil contains high levels of linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that can help control acne by decreasing clogged pores.

Grapeseed oil packs a powerful punch thanks to natural stores of antioxidants and skin-promoting compounds. High amounts of omega fatty acids – especially linoleic acid – and vitamin E help maintain healthy moisture levels in the skin.

Grapeseed oil lightens skin discolorations like acne scars and sunspots thanks to its vitamin E and linoleic acid content.

Thanks to the polyphenols found in grapeseed oil, these gems help combat premature aging and wrinkles. Along with fatty acids, grapeseed polyphenols also help to mitigate signs of premature aging while boosting circulation. This oil also has natural astringent properties, making the skin look tighter and more youthful.

Grapeseed oil can prevent your skin from absorbing the full damage of UV rays or other environmental aggressors.

Grapeseed oil absorbs easily, delivering intense moisture without leaving skin feeling oily or greasy.

Rosehip oil

Rosehip oil can work as a great natural alternative for moisturizing.

Rosehip oil is packed with beauty essentials like anti-inflammatory fatty acids and vitamins A and C. These ingredients allow rosehip oil to treat signs of aging and pigmentation, hydrate skin, and repair damaged skin.

Frankincense essential oil

When used as an ingredient in skincare products, frankincense essential oil is said to treat dry skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, scars, and stretch marks.

Patchouli essential oil

Patchouli oil contains a variety of skin benefits and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, and skin imperfections.

Patchouli essential oil is especially beneficial for aging skin. It is used to reduce the wrinkled or chapped appearance. It promotes new cell growth and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Vitamin E oil

Vitamin E is one of the best ingredients to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate the skin. Another benefit is that the antioxidant properties of vitamin E also protect the carrier oil from oxidation (= going rancid) and help to prolong the shelf life of the DIY anti-aging cream.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Step 1: Mix ingredients

Add the grapeseed oil, vitamin E, and essential oils into a small glass beaker.

Stir until everything is well combined. Vitamin E has a dense consistency and may take a few moments to dissolve. The serum is ready when you can no longer see streaks of individual ingredients.

Step 2: Store

Transfer the face serum into a glass dropper bottle.

Store airtight, away from direct sunlight and heat.

I like to prepare my serums in small glass beakers to see if everything is incorporated well. You can also directly mix the serum in the bottle. To do this, simply add the ingredients, close tightly, and give the bottle a good shake.
