DIY rose water toner

Since I have so many rose flowers in my garden, I can’t stop sharing rose-inspired beauty products, from soap, body lotion, bath salts, body butter, and face cream. Or my newest obsession: DIY rose water toner.

Last year I even tried making my rose water, but I’ve never shared the recipe with you. Making DIY rose water is simple; you only need roses and water. You can always buy rose water if you can’t make it home. Note that many store-bought versions are loaded with chemicals that can cause your skin more harm than good. If you read the label on the bottle, you may notice many ingredients that are hard to pronounce. Ideally, rose water is made by steaming or steeping the rose petals in water. I’m a huge fan of Alteya Organics’ skincare products, and they are natural and affordable. They also make different types of rose water

Homemade rosewater toner ingredients

Aloe vera juice

Aloe vera juice is a source of micronutrients and has great moisturizing properties. It contains polysaccharides, which help to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. Aloe vera also has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s an excellent ingredient for people with sensitive skin. Aloe vera is rich in antioxidants, which help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. By using skincare products that contain aloe vera, you can help to reduce the signs of aging and promote healthy, youthful-looking skin.

Rose water

You can use both rose water and rose hydrosol. Rose water has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, meaning it helps to soothe areas of your skin that have become irritated. Rose water reduces the signs of aging. It plumps the skin and improves the appearance of wrinkles. Rose water also tightens the skin. Among everything else, rose water is an excellent hydrator. It does a great job protecting your skin from becoming dry and damaged.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a natural astringent derived from the witch hazel plant, meaning when used in skincare, it helps to naturally cleanse and soothe while controlling the skin’s oil production. It is also used as a natural way to tighten pores, leaving skin looking smoother. Note it can irritate those with susceptible skin.

Vegetable Glycerine

Vegetable glycerin is a humectant that helps seal moisture and plump your skin.

Panthenol Powder (provitamin B5)

Panthenol powder plays a crucial role in keeping your complexion healthy and good-looking. The ingredient moisturizes, softens, and soothes the skin and helps build a protective barrier to prevent water loss.

Preservative

As this product is hydrous (it contains water), a broad-spectrum preservative is necessary (Vitamin E, rosemary extract, and grapefruit seed extract are NOT preservatives). Use your preservative according to the manufacturer’s instructions and adjust the recipe accordingly. I like using Liquid Germall Plus Preservative.

The most accurate way to measure your ingredients is to weigh everything in grams. Measure the glycerine into your bottle or jug. Next, add the preservative and mix well. Then add all the remaining ingredients and mix well.

How to use rose facial toner

Cleanse your skin and remove any makeup before using your DIY rose water toner. Next, apply the rose water facial with cotton wool after cleansing. To lock the moisture the DIY rose water toner provides to the skin, follow up with a serum or face oil and a moisturizer. I love this DIY rose face cream.

How to store

Store the DIY rose water face mist in cool to ambient areas. I like to keep my rose water toner in my bathroom cabinet. The room temperature is acceptable. If keeping the bottle closed, moisture and humidity won’t affect the DIY skin toner.

Rose water toner shelf life

You can store the DIY rose water toner for up to 6 months, but only with a preservative. Discard the product if you notice a change in smell or detect mold.
